Coldfusion Frameworks and networks

As anyone following me on twitter will know I've been playing with VMware a lot recently. One of the things that it lets you do it map to a local drive on your computer. This is great as it stops your having to copy code from one place to another.

I setup apache and CF8 on my Virtual Machine (VM) and made the mappings to my applications and then to my frameworks. The problem was I kept getting errors with timeouts, such as

A timeout occurred while attempting to lock ModelGlueInit.
and
struct Cause struct Detail [empty string] LockName ModelGlueI...

The bottom line is that frameworks don't like being run over networked drives or networks full stop. I downloaded the frameworks and created the mappings to point at them locally and everything ran like a dream.

Sam Farmer's Gravatar Hit the same problem and came up with the same solution.

Out of interest what OS are you running on the VM's?

Sam Farmer's Gravatar I run a copy of XP for some testing and Windows 2003 to run CF so that I can mimic my production environment.
