Firefox keeps crashing

For quite a while now I've been getting really annoyed that Firefox keeps crashing. I have to say that I need to put the blame down to the plug-ins rather that Firefox.

Some things to do though to help you get Firefox back up if it does keep crashing:

On Windows XP, sometimes Firefox must be run in Windows 2000 compatibility mode. Right click on your Firefox desktop icon and click on Compatibility > change the setting to Windows 2000 > click Apply

another thing is just to start Firefox up in safe mode. You can start in Safe Mode by selecting "Start -> Run" and entering

firefox -safe-mode

You can also disable all of you plugins using this method.

I hope this helps anyone else that has been suffering recently.

Some notes on safe mode from: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

Safe Mode options in Firefox

Selecting any of these options and choosing the "Make changes and restart" button will result in changes that will persist in normal mode.

Reset toolbars and controls - This removes any toolbar customizations you may have made.

Reset bookmarks to Firefox defaults - This replaces your bookmarks with the default bookmarks. Use with caution.

Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults - This restores the default Options and preference settings (except for any set in the user.js file) and resets the default theme. It does not affect any userChrome.css or userContent.css changes.

These additional options are available starting in Firefox 2:
Disable all add-ons - This disables all added themes and extensions. You can use the "Add-ons" tool to selectively re-enable them when you restart Firefox (details here).

Restore default search engines - This adds back all of the default search engines (currently Google, Yahoo, eBay, Creative Commons, Answers.com, and Amazon.com) if some are missing. It does not remove any added search engines.

Buttons
Make Changes and Restart - This restarts Firefox in normal mode and applies the changes in any of the options selected above.

Continue in Safe Mode - Starts Firefox in Safe Mode (this will not apply any of the options selected above).

Exit

Raymond Camden's Gravatar For me - the HUGE fix was disabling Firebug. I had it turned on for every site. I know selectively turn it on and FF has been much better. I'd say 95% better. (I sitll get a crash about once a week.)
