Setting up a certificate in IIS 6

Here is a quick step-by-step guide to setup a certificate on IIS:

You need to:

1. Install the server in a directory on the server.

2. Go to Run and type MMC to enter the MMC console.

3. Click on file and the Add/Remove Snap-in.

4. Then Click on add, and scroll down to certificates and double click that. Click Next and select computer account, click next again and make sure Local computer is selected.

5. Click Close and then click OK. Then expand the certificates and expand personal.

6. In the personal screen on the right, right click and click on import. Go to the directory of the file and select the file. Click next to finish.

7. Go to IIS and find the website you want to install the cerificate on.

8. Click on the Directory Security Tab, the click on Server Certificate.

9. Select 'Assign an existing certificate', Click on next and you should see your certificates from the MMC screen.

10. Then click next till you finish.

That is how you install a certificate on to a website.

Remember you can only install one certificate per IP address. When changing the ip address if need be, make sure it is changed in the Ip Address field and then click on Advanced and make sure the Ip address is the same in both fields.
