Errors in Flex communication with coldfusion

So i've had a bad 24 hours. I've had my server go down and I can't get flex to work on my local machine. I've been fighting trying to get it to work so I can take advantage of Brian Rinaldis Code Generator. It all started when i got an error saying:

Send failed
Client.Error.MessageSend
Fault occurred in GetTemplateCommand

Hmm, well that doesn't really help. I did a bit of searching and found a hint in some comments on boyzoid from Bruce that suggested that

Flex Builder 2 source code

Adobe have released the FlexBuilder Source code

Adobe Flex Builder 2 is built on Eclipse 3.1.2, provided by the Eclipse Foundation. Additionally, Adobe Flex Builder 2 contains source code derived from Eclipse code. Both the Eclipse code and the code derived from Eclipse code are made available to the community under the terms of the Eclipse Public License v1.0 that accompanies such code, and is also available at http://www.eclipse.org/legal/epl-v10.html.

So why should i care? Check this post out from Mike Potter

I'm sure i don't need to mention that Flex 2 has been released. Read the press article here!

Public beta of Flex 2

Adobe labs have released a public beta of Flex 2. Christian Cantrell has a great summary of what we can expect from it, which includes a free version of both Flex and Flex Enterprise Services. If you've not yet checked it out yet then you should do it this moment.

Updated:
Ben Forta has posted a sample ColdFusion powered Flex 2 application at Adobe Labs.
From his site:

The Phone Selector application is a very simple example of a ColdFusion powered Flex application. This sample application is deliberately small and highly focused so as to demonstrate ColdFusion Flex integration options. These include:

  • Accessing ColdFusion Components via Flash Remoting
  • The automatic conversion between ColdFusion Components and equivalent ActionScript objects

In addition, the application serves as an example of some basic Flex functionality, including:

  • The use of Flex states to control display
  • The use of renderers and custom components
  • The use of custom formatters

This application is not intended to demonstrate development best-practices, and was designed purely to demonstrate integration capabilities, functionality, and techniques.

Flex Enterprise service presentation

So i'm a newbie to flex but i think it's going to pick up a lot of steam over the next few months. With this on my mind i've decided it's a good idea to start getting my head into it now. I found this web presentation is a great start on whats coming soon for Flex:

http://macromedia.breezecentral.com/fes

In the presentation, Christophe Coenrates covers the two key components of the new Enterprise Services that MM have introduced in Flex 2: Messaging and the new Data Services.

It's worth noting that the Flex Enterprise Services are not part of the current alpha. MM expect them to be in beta later this year, that is later in 2005.
